Christy and Karen's Dressmaking Journey with Kaye Teede

Have you ever found yourself in a time crunch, desperately searching for the perfect fabric to create that one-of-a-kind outfit? Well, that's the story of how a sewing project turned into a memorable adventure for three friends: myself, Christy, and Karen.

We had a blast working on our outfits, and the memories of our creative journey are still vivid. Christy, in particular, faced a unique challenge with her fabric. Her vision for her dress required something unique, something that couldn't be found in any local store. So, she opted for fabric from overseas. Although the fabric's journey is a story in itself (which I'll share another time), let's just say it was a bit of an adventure in finding the right material. I'm sure Christy would facepalmingly agree!

Christy's chosen fabric came from Lithuania, or was it another country? I'm not entirely certain. The important thing is that we managed to acquire the fabric that brought her vision to life.

As for Karen's dress, the fabric was a magnificent find from Fabulous Fabrics in Perth. Trust me when I say that dealing with this fabric nearly drove me to the brink – in a good way, of course! The pattern placement was a meticulous process that required patience and precision.

Unfortunately, I can't recall the details off the top of my head, but I'm determined to find those photos that will remind us of the painstaking but rewarding work we put into it. Plus, the fact that the fabric was silk organza added another layer of challenge. Its delicate nature meant we had to be extra careful when sewing, as it had a tendency to distort and lose its shape.

And speaking of personal projects, I can't forget the outfit I made for the luncheon when Christy and I went to Perth for the FOF (Fashion On the Field) event, where she proudly placed 3rd. That's right; I had to create not one but two outfits—the chic pants and top combo and the stunning black and white dress I wore in another photo with Christy.

So, there you have it – a snapshot of our delightful dressmaking adventure, filled with overseas fabric quests and intricate sewing challenges. It's proof that sometimes, the journey is just as exciting as the destination, and that the right fabric supplier can turn a creative endeavor into a remarkable story.
